As Gods of Metal and the leaders of the Big 4 (along side Anthrax, Slayer, and Megadeath), Metallica has seen its fair share of haters out there.

People try to pull out all the stops to put down and shun people listening to Metallica, but all we have to say is Haters Gonna Hate, Bro.

Metallica started there raise to the top in the early 80′s in Los Angeles.

Writing such metal masterpieces like Kill ‘Em All, Ride the Lighting, Master of Puppets, and… And Justice For All it seemed that Metallica already craved their name into the pantheons of metal.

Then 1991′s Metallica came out (also known as The Black Album).

The Black Album was Metallica’s crossover album from Gods of Metal to head of the entire music scene itself.

When the intern finally came back, she asked who sang the main song that was used in the movie.

At first we got angry. Who talks during the movie?

Then we got curious.

It’s one of the most infectious songs that we have ever heard but we just can’t seem to put our finger on the name.

So we did our own Ferris Bueller mad dash through backyards and houses to find Tami Heide and ask her.

 MORE What’s That Song?

So, which one is it?

We sent a lonely intern to find out what The Rolling Stones really called that song to end this strange blood-feud once and for all.

It turns out that both sides where wrong.  The song by The Rolling Stones is called “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”. 

With the realization that both sides were wrong peace finally came to the JACK offices.

Until we found out that the intern forgot that we like Splenda and not Sweet-N-Low.

Big, teased out hair that needed half an aerosol can (which has nearly destroyed the ozone), giant, neon animal print parachute pants, Howard the Duck, or whatever it may be – the 80′s was full of some pretty big misses.

One thing we can all agree on, however, is that the music of the 80′s remains the best artifact to come out of that decade.

The only bad thing about 80′s music is that it’s full of one-hit wonders, which leads us to forget the names of different bands. Though each band may have only had 15 minutes of fame, they still made a huge impact on the music scene today.

One of our favorite 80′s one hit wonders is Big Country, the Scottish rock band that had a new-wave yell – plus they used bagpipes in their biggest hit In A Big Country.

Though Big Country‘s career didn’t last as long as the band they were compared to at the time U2, they did mange to make one of our favorite songs of the 80′s.

And then bam! “Closing Time.”

Since we’re so frequently asked about who sings “Closing Time”, we thought we’d give you a little background on the mystery band.

Semisonic is a three-piece alternative band from Minnesota composed of John Munson on bass, Jacob Slichter on drums and Dan Wilson on guitar and lead vocals. Although Semisonic isn’t technically broken up, lead singer Dan Wilson is still a predominate songwriter, writing songs for Adele, Weezer, and Keith Urban to name a few.

So we raise our glasses to Semisonic and their last call anthem “Closing Time” with the video and the lyrics below.

But no song has ever really described every thirteen year old boys favorite pastime quite like “Turning Japanese”.

The Vapors “Turning Japanese” confused one of our listeners, who wanted to know if the song was referring to taking a trip to Palmdale…

Well, music is an interpretive art form, so “Turning Japanese” means different things to different people.

Maybe The Vapors where referring back to a lost love and the only memory of them was in a photograph, or maybe The Vapors just really love the Japanese culture?

But honestly, who is buying that!?
